Mental Health First Aid for Adults (Blended Format)

Mental Health First Aid® is a nationally recognized public education course designed to teach individuals, professionals, businesses, and community members how to respond with care and genuine support to someone experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge or crisis.

Mental health concerns are common—and with the right support, wellness and recovery are possible.

This practical, evidence-informed training builds your confidence and peace of mind, helping you recognize warning signs, respond effectively, and support others while also prioritizing your own well-being.

Implemented in over 35 countries and with more than 8 million people trained, Mental Health First Aid is part of a global movement to improve mental health literacy and community support.

What You Will Learn

In this course, you will learn how to apply the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE) across a variety of real-life situations, including when someone is experiencing:

  • Panic attacks

  • Suicidal thoughts or behaviors

  • Non-suicidal self-injury

  • Acute psychosis (e.g., hallucinations or delusions)

  • Overdose or withdrawal from alcohol or drug use

  • Reactions to traumatic events

Participants will also have the opportunity to practice skills through role plays, scenarios, and interactive activities, making it easier to confidently apply what you learn in real-life situations.

Important: Blended Learning Format (Pre-Work Required)

This course is delivered in a blended format, which includes:

  • Self-paced online pre-work (REQUIRED)

  • Live instructor-led session

⚠️ Completion of the pre-work is mandatory to attend the live session.
Participants who do not complete the pre-work in advance will not be eligible to join the live training.

Getting Started After Registration

After registering on Eventbrite:

  • You will receive an invitation from the MHFA Connect platform

  • You must create your MHFA Connect account using your full name (as it should appear on your certificate)

  • Once your account is created, you will be enrolled in the course

  • You will then receive a follow-up email confirming access to your pre-work

Pre-Work Requirements

The pre-work:

  • Takes approximately 2.5 hours to complete

  • Must be completed through your MHFA Connect account prior to the training date

  • Will progress to approximately 90% completion, with final steps completed after the live session

Course materials for the live session are only accessible after the pre-work has been completed.
